VCU celebrates Alumni Month in April

Virginia Commonwealth University has organized a month-long celebration for alumni in April. The fifth annual Alumni Month includes a variety of activities, events and programs to help alumni reconnect with one another and with current faculty, staff and students.

Alumni Month features a full schedule of lectures, forums, service projects, receptions, dinners, art exhibits, cultural performances, golf tournaments and other social activities.

Highlights include the Monroe Scholars Book and Author Luncheon with author and activist Rita Mae Brown on April 1, an alumni winery tour on April 5, Alumni Night at The Diamond for a Flying Squirrels baseball game and pregame picnic on April 25 and a VCU Alumni and Division of Student Affairs Community Bike Ride on April 26. Also, alumni are eligible for a two-week introductory membership to theCary Street Gym and the MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatics Center during April.

In addition, a number of classes will return to the university as part of Reunion Weekend 2014, April 11-13. During that weekend, an RPI Reunion is scheduled for the Class of 1964; MCV Campus Reunion activities are scheduled for several classes in the schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; and an African-American Alumni Council Reunion is scheduled to celebrate the 40th anniversaries of the Theta Rho alumni chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Eta Xi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. as well as the 10th anniversary of the VCU Department of African-American Studies as a degree-granting department.
