As part of a research project, Virginia Commonwealth University Life Sciences will conduct an unmanned aircraft system mapping flight over parts of VCU’s Monroe Park Campus on Thursday and Friday, during the university’s fall semester reading days.

The drone flight will be concentrated in the areas of the Trani Life Sciences Building, Oliver Hall, the Temple Building, Harris Hall and the University Student Commons on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The flight on Friday will be focused in the area of the Cary Street Field and Cary Street Gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The total area covered will stretch from Floyd Avenue in the north to Parkwood Avenue in the south and from Cherry Street in the east to Harrison Street in the west.

Pedestrians will observe a UAS survey field crew wearing safety vests in the vicinity of the flights. For their safety, passersby will be directed to avoid walking under the drone or following it.
