Joseph A. Cirillo joins the Division of Administration

Joseph A. Cirillo joined Virginia Commonwealth University’s Division of Administration as assistant vice president for organizational excellence and chief of staff, effective May 30.

In this role, Cirillo will manage high-priority projects, establish and oversee an organizational excellence program and serve as a liaison between the Division of Administration and its internal and community partners.

Cirillo most recently served as the special project assistant to the vice president for health sciences and has worked in the office of the vice president for health sciences since 1996.

Prior to joining VCU in 1996, he worked in a variety of other health care settings at Inova Health System, Kaiser Permanente and Booz Allen Hamilton. His experience in the health care arena spans a wide range of areas, including process improvement, information technology management, web center management, financial analysis, strategic planning and executive level administrative support.

“Joe brings a great deal of institutional knowledge, a wealth of experience in process improvement and a commitment to the work of the division,” said Meredith Weiss, Ph.D., vice president for administration. “I look forward to his leadership and analytical support as we move forward on a number of high priority initiatives.”

A native of Burke, Virginia, Cirillo earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and operations research from Virginia Tech. He earned his M.B.A. from George Washington University and is currently enrolled in the Master of Decision Analytics program at VCU.

“I am excited to join the Division of Administration and am looking forward to serving VCU in a new way,” Cirillo said.
