Two students awarded scholarships by Society of Professional Journalists

Katherine Johnson and Mark Robinson, both rising seniors in the School of Mass Communications in the College of Humanities and Sciences, each received a $1,500 scholarship recently at the annual banquet of the Virginia Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Both Johnson and Robinson have actively pursued journalism throughout their college careers.  Johnson interned last summer for Hampton Roads Magazine, and Robinson is the incoming executive editor of the Commonwealth Times.

Since 1971, the SPJ and the Virginia Pro chapter have awarded more than $91,000 in scholarships to 79 Virginia students intending to become journalists.
