Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and Virginia Secretary of Education Dietra Trent will address new and returning Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education students, faculty and staff as part of the school’s fall convocation.

The event will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in room 151 of the Eugene P. and Lois E. Trani Center for Life Sciences, 1000 W. Cary St.

Stoney will speak about education needs in the City of Richmond, and how the School of Education can help. Trent will speak on the same topic, but for Virginia as a whole.

“This annual convocation is meant to inspire School of Education students and faculty to use their unique skills and interests to make the world a better place, starting right here in the City of Richmond and the Commonwealth of Virginia’” said Andrew P. Daire, Ph.D., dean of the VCU School of Education.

Also speaking at the event will be School of Education alumna Danielle Greene, a social studies teacher at Thomas C. Boushall Middle School, and Terri Morton Johnson, a doctoral student in the School of Education’s curriculum, culture and change track. Greene and Johnson will discuss how the School of Education is helping them impact the community and the education system.

The event will be open to the media. It will also be livestreamed via Facebook live here.
