Spring has been a time to celebrate for VCU’s School of Social Work.

A new ranking of the school and a recently completed renovation of the school’s home in Raleigh Building were reasons to celebrate at an April 27 open house, which featured faculty, staff, students and alumni of the program.

In March, US News and World Report released its 2013 rankings of universities and university programs. The VCU School of Social Work was ranked 11th overall (up from 14th) and fifth among public, comprehensive programs (up from sixth).

In a letter to faculty, Dean Jim Hinterlong, Ph.D., wrote, “This is the highest-ever ranking for the school, and reflects how highly regarded your work is viewed by our colleagues in more than 215 programs across the United States and its territories.”

Faculty, students and staff also are enjoying a refurbished Raleigh Building, with new flooring, lighting, improved meeting space and a new clinical training and supervision observation room. The remodeling project began last May and finished earlier this year.
