Best Doctors Inc. has named 82 physicians from the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University to the 2013 list of Best Doctors in America®.
Sixty-five physicians from the VCU Medical Center and 17 physicians from Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU are among 5 percent of the doctors in America selected by their peers of more than 45,000 physicians.
“These individuals are representative of the many physicians who provide the highest quality of care at the VCU Medical Center,” said Sheldon Retchin, M.D., senior vice president for health sciences at VCU and CEO of the VCU Health System. “This type of peer recognition highlights professional achievement, compassion and expertise displayed by our physicians every day.”
Doctors are evaluated based on their credentials, clinical activity and accessibility to existing or new patients.
According to the Boston-based Best Doctors Inc., physicians are asked to evaluate their peers because they have a unique, “inside” perspective about who is at the top of their profession, who is updated on the latest advances in their field and who they would seek for state-of-the-art care when faced with a serious medical problem of their own.
Best Doctors Inc. was founded in 1989 by two Harvard Medical School physicians. Their vision was to provide greater access to dependable, high quality medical information and care for individuals with serious illnesses and injuries.
