Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center continues its series of free educational seminars featuring experts providing important health information, sharing their expertise and answering questions on current health topics.

The series’ next lecture, “Gynecologic Cancers: Prevention and Screening,” will take place on April 29 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont, 224 Washington St., in Falmouth, Va. It is free and open to the public, but registration is recommended. For more information or to register, visit vcuhealth.org/fredseminars.

“Gynecologic Cancers: Prevention and Screening” will be presented by Jori Carter, M.D., of the VCU Massey Cancer Center, who will discuss the five main types of cancer that affect a woman’s reproductive organs – cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar. Although screening is only currently available for cervical cancer, other prevention techniques may reduce the risk of gynecologic cancers in certain individuals.
