The Virginia Commonwealth University Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center will host its third annual 5K walk/run fundraiser on Saturday, April 30.

The start and finish line of the Movin’ and Shakin’ 5K (3.1 miles of flat course) is at the Innsbrook Office Park, Snag-A-Job Pavilion, 4901 Lake Brook Drive, Glen Allen. The event area opens at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. Registration, which is now open, is $35 or $40 on-site.

The 5K will provide an opportunity for both the community and those with a movement disorder, along with friends and families, to gather and share hope, resources and the joy of exercise. All funds raised through the event supports research and services offered to those affected by movement disorders.

Last year, more than 530 participants joined the movement, raising $55,000 in net proceeds. This year, the goal is to have 650 participants and raise $75,000.

The VCU Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center strives to be a premier model for improving the lives of individuals with movement disorders, their families and the community by its commitment to excellence in comprehensive interdisciplinary clinical care, transitional research and education and outreach.
