Virginia Commonwealth University will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree-planting event at the VCU Rice Center as a part of a larger wetlands restoration project.
The event takes place Friday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at the VCU Rice Center, 3701 John Tyler Memorial Hwy., Charles City.
More than 100 volunteers are expected to help plant the trees, which include a mix of bald cyprus, sycamore, swamp white oak, river birch, black gum, red oak, red maple and hickory.
The event is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree Campus USA program, which honors colleges and universities for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of environmental stewardship.
