Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will join Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao and VCU School of Engineering Dean Barbara D. Boyan on Thursday, Aug. 24, to announce the largest grant from a private entity in university history: a multimillion-dollar grant to improve access to lifesaving medications around the world.

Reporters are invited to a news conference about the grant beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park BioTech Eight building, 737 N. Fifth St., followed by a tour of select biotech labs where much of the research will take place.

This is the second-largest grant in VCU history and the largest for the School of Engineering. In 2013, VCU received a $62 million federal grant to oversee a national research consortium to study the impact of brain injury on military personnel.

Biotech Eight’s entrance is at 510 Jackson St. across from Altria CRT. Media parking is available at the 8th Street and Jackson Street lot, on the corner closest to 7th and Jackson streets. Spaces are limited. First come, first served.
