Former Washington Post columnist to speak on journalism in the Trump era

Bob Levey, a former columnist and reporter at The Washington Post for 36 years and a visiting professor of journalism this year at Virginia Commonwealth University, will deliver a lecture Thursday on the future of media and responsible journalism during the presidency of Donald Trump.

Levey, the Virginius Dabney Distinguished Professor of Journalism in the Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will speak at 2:30 p.m. in the University Student Commons Theater, 907 Floyd Ave. His lecture will be free and open to the public.

In the lecture, Levey “will touch on the business issues that have reshaped the industry, as well as the outlook for responsible journalism in the Trump era.” He also plans to discuss what the next decade will look like for the media.

Levey has been a working journalist in Washington, D.C., for nearly 50 years, including 36 years at the Post. For 23 years, he wrote a daily column, “Bob Levey’s Washington,” which explored all aspects of life in the nation’s capital. He was named one of the most popular columnists in Washington by Washingtonian magazine seven times. He also has been a prize-winning commentator on radio and television. He currently writes a monthly column for Senior Beacon Newspapers.
