Thompson, Jennifer

Political Science

Jennifer Thompson, J.D., joined the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs after an extensive career in politics. She teaches courses on the U.S. Congress, U.S. parties and elections, political communication.
Thompson served as a lobbyist and a lawyer at two of the largest law firms in Washington D.C., where she managed government relations strategies for her clients and represented them in discussions with the White House, the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate offices, and numerous federal departments and agencies.
In 2002, she served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Congressman Jim Talent’s successful campaign for the U.S. Senate in Missouri and managed the campaign team, legal issues, policy, grassroots, major events and fundraising.
Thompson was also a visiting professor of politics at the University of Melbourne in Australia and the University of Northampton in England.
Thompson is a regular commentator about national and Virginia political issues and elections in print and broadcast media.
