The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center Level I trauma center will host the Seventh Annual Shining Knight Gala featuring the story of one remarkable patient, and the numerous individuals whose coordinated efforts created a sophisticated system of lifesaving care.

The event will take place on May 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Short Pump Hilton, 12042 W. Broad St., Richmond.

VCU Medical Center has been a state-designated trauma center since 1981, making it the longest-standing trauma center in the commonwealth. More than 4,000 central Virginians sustain major traumatic injuries each year and are treated by the VCU trauma team of experts. As the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, VCU Medical Center has 24-hour, on-site surgical staff, dedicated operating room space, and round-the-clock access to laboratory services and subspecialties.

Keynote speakers at the event include Sen. Tommy Norment; Marissa Levine, M.D., interim state health commissioner; and Michel Aboutanos, M.D., chief of trauma and chair, Division of Acute Care Surgical Services.

The Shining Knight Gala benefits the injury and violence prevention programs at VCU Medical Center.
