VCU Health creates more access to academic medicine on the south side with the opening of Stony Point 9109

VCU Health MCV Physicians opened its doors to patients this week at its new medical office building at 9109 Stony Point Drive.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the new facility, Michael Rao, Ph.D. president of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health System, spoke about the conception of the space and how it is symbolic of history repeating itself.

“If we go back to 1838 — the beginning of the Medical College of Virginia — we can see the vision was one created out of necessity,” Rao said. “The founding physicians of MCV recognized the need for medical education in the South, especially during the Civil War. They provided care to the people who needed access, while educating providers of the future and researching difficult issues. That is the foundation for VCU and for the care provided today by VCU Health.”

MCV Physicians is proud to be a part of the Stony Point community.

Rao complimented and thanked John Ward, M.D., president of MCV Physicians for his forward thinking and perseverance in making Stony Point 9109 a reality.

“MCV Physicians is proud to be a part of the Stony Point community,” Ward said. “Providing care in this superior space will allow us to continue building a healthier future for this community and beyond.”

Services and expertise offered at 9109 include dermatology; ear, nose and throat; audiology; pre and post general and bariatric surgical outpatient care; and reproductive services. The three-story building is 60,000 square feet with 85 exam rooms. Each clinic is uniquely designed to meet the needs of its patient population. In addition to medical exam rooms, dermatology has six procedural examination rooms and a four-room laser suite. The reproductive services suite offers a state-of-the-art andrology and embryology laboratory, as well as procedure rooms for on-site in vitro fertilization. The ENT clinic offers designated space for speech therapy studies. Registration kiosks are located throughout the facility to enhance the patient experience, as well as free on-site parking. The interior is laced with warm colors and various textures, all by design to enhance the patient experience.

“Patients will feel welcomed and comfortable when they come for their treatment,” said Marsha D. Rappley, CEO of VCU Health System and vice president of VCU health sciences. “But what I am most proud of is the amazing and dedicated team of professionals that will be delivering the highest-caliber of care here. It is their relentless research, education and care that makes the difference in the lives of the people we serve across the Commonwealth.”

The name of the building is a bit different than other locations, but that is by design in the name of convenience. The building marks the third VCU Health location at Stony Point. With this expansion, VCU now refers to its medical services provided in the area as the VCU Health Stony Point Campus, identifying each specific location by its physical address so patients can easily input their destination in GPS. Also located on the VCU Health Stony Point Campus is Stony Point 9000 and 8700.
