The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) today ranked the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System as No. 2 on its list of the 2013 NAFE Top 10 Nonprofit Companies for Executive Women.
This is the seventh consecutive year that the VCU Health System has been named a NAFE Top Company. This year’s ranking marks the highest yet for the hospital.
VCU was selected as a NAFE Top 10 Nonprofit because it serves as a leader in the nonprofit community with its commitment to female leadership.
“We are pleased to be recognized by NAFE for the seventh time,” said Maria Curran, vice president of human resources and family services and chief human resources officer for the VCU Health System. “We work to create an environment where women have exceptional opportunities to succeed.”
Women make up 68 percent of the managers and 76 percent of the workforce at the VCU Health System.
Additionally, the VCU Health System provides several opportunities for its staff, including an education assistance program for its full-time employees and their dependents.
Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media and CEO of NAFE, said, “We are proud to recognize these 10 nonprofit companies that have created a culture that identifies, promotes and nurtures successful women. We are proud to honor companies that place women in leadership positions.”
The NAFE Top 10 Nonprofits lead corporate America in recruiting, retaining and advancing women. According to NAFE, women represent 77 percent of employees at the NAFE Top 10 Nonprofits.
The 2013 NAFE Top Companies application includes more than 200 questions on female representation at all levels, but especially in the corporate officer and profit-and-loss leadership ranks.
