Find something that you’re passionate about. If you don’t fully care about something you’re not going to excel in it.

When it comes to promoting school spirit at Virginia Commonwealth University, STAT’s got your back.

STAT (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) is one of VCU’s largest registered student organizations with about 1,100 members currently enrolled. A dues-paying organization known for its multitude of popular programs and events aimed to promote school spirit and known as a platform for students to learn and connect with VCU alumni, STAT is an organization with a successful track record for student engagement.

Now STAT has a new superlative to its name: seven-time CASE award winner.

At the fall 2014 CASE ASAP (Affiliated Student Advancement Programs) conference, STAT was named the 2014 Outstanding Organization and was recognized for its “Outstanding Tried and True Program,” the Barnes & Noble @ VCU Blackout. STAT was recognized among 300 student advancement programs (alumni groups, tour guides, philanthropy groups) from throughout North America.

“I was surprised by the award, but at the same time, not completely,” said STAT President Brendan Hood, a senior major in the School of Business. “Our committee members and board of directors really are dedicated to the mission of STAT. I wasn’t too shocked considering their commitment and dedication.”

Hood credits the members’ passion as the driving force behind STAT’s achievement.

“Find something that you’re passionate about. If you don’t fully care about something you’re not going to excel in it,” Hood said.

In addition to winning awards for Outstanding Organization and Outstanding Tried and True Program at the fall conference, STAT also received the following awards at the Feb. 2014 CASE conference:

·  Outstanding Internal Program (Recruitment Series)

·  Outstanding Tried and True Program (2013 Barnes & Noble Blackout)

·  Outstanding Student Leader (Daniel Metz, former STAT president)

·  Outstanding Organization

·  District 3 Spirit Award – Most Spirited University
