Faculty and staff news from the campuses of VCU
10/14/2009
Virginia Commonwealth University and the VCU Health System recognize employees for their dedicated years of commitment to the institution's teaching, research, service and patient-care mission at the 38th annual Service Awards receptions.
This year’s program honors more than 2,000 faculty and staff members at receptions on both campuses. The MCV Campus reception was held on Oct. 13 at the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building. The Monroe Park Campus reception will be held on Oct. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballrooms.
Employees with five to 15 years of service receive service-award pins, while employees with 20 or more years of service selected either the pin or a gift.
Faculty and staff who have been with the university or health system for 25 years or more were eligible to receive a limited-edition gift, of which only 50 are available. The special gift — a black and silver, hand-blown glass vase — was designed exclusively for this year’s service-award recipients by Nanda Soderberg, a 2005 graduate of VCU’s School of the Arts and an adjunct faculty member.
