NCAA APR Release
RICHMOND, Va. – Ten VCU Athletics programs posted perfect single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, while three teams received flawless rolling four-year marks, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Â
Baseball, Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Men's Track & Field, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Tennis and Volleyball all received 1,000-point scores for the 2020-21 academic year. Additionally, Women's Cross Country, Men's Soccer and Field Hockey were cited for perfect four-year scores.
Â
APR is the NCAA's metric for measuring the overall academic health of each program, as well as tracking graduation rates.
Â
The Rams' overall APR success also met the NCAA's Division I Academic Unit requirement, which entitles VCU Athletics to a share of revenue from the NCAA. VCU has met the NCAA Academic Unit requirement in each year since the inception of the program in 2020.
Â
The APR report was an exclamation point on what was already a banner academic year for VCU student-athletes.
Â
Additionally, VCU's nearly 300 student-athletes recorded a spring semester grade-point-average of 3.289, which marked the 15
th consecutive semester the Rams have collectively registered a 3.0 or better. The Women's Tennis program clocked in with a program-best 3.708 GPA for the semester. For the 2021-22 academic year, VCU student-athletes posted a 3.325 GPA overall.
Â
Sixty-six student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA or better in the spring, and 40 percent were named to Dean's List. Seventy-seven percent of VCU student-athletes recorded a 3.0 or better in the spring.
Â
Senior golfer
Adrian Vagberg (Solentuna, Sweden), who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout his VCU career, was recently named the recipient of the Elite 90 Award at the NCAA Golf Championships, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each championship site. Vagberg received his degree in Physics in May.
