Help VCU set world record for largest display of piñatas

Ever wanted to break a world record? Now’s your chance. The Virginia Commonwealth University da Vinci Center is partnering with the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Virginia Hispanic Foundation to attempt a Guinness World Record for the “Largest Display of Piñatas.”
The goal is to collect at least 1,000 piñatas — which would nearly double the current record of 506 — to be displayed at the annual ¿Qué Pasa? Festival along the Canal Walk on May 5.
Every person who donates a handmade or purchased piñata will have their name on this Guinness World Record.
“We hope this event highlights the strength of collaboration in our community and communicates the importance of diversity and culture in Virginia,” said Allison Schumacher, director of academic alchemy at the da Vinci Center. “When different minds and experiences come together to find solutions, the impact can be much greater than solving through one mindset alone.”
After the festival, the piñatas will be displayed at a local venue for the community to continue to enjoy. At the end of the exhibition, volunteers will fill the piñatas with school supplies and donate them to eligible schools, programs and families in the community.
Homemade or purchased piñatas can be dropped off at the following locations.
