The MCVH Auxiliary of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has awarded $95,480 to 14 different hospital programs at VCU Medical Center. The grants are part of the Auxiliary's annual tradition of supporting hospital departments with funds to start new programs or buy special equipment.

Auxiliary volunteers have several resources to raise the money that helps the hospital, the staff or patients. Some funds are from profits from the Three Bears Gift Shop and the rest from the various sales of jewelry, books and leather goods sponsored by the Auxiliary throughout the year.

This year's grant recipients include:

  • Child Care Services $10,500
  •  Child Life Program $ 1,395
  • Hume-Lee Transplant Unit $10,000
  • Massey Cancer Center $10,000
  • Neuroscience $ 5,100
  • Nutrition Clinic $10,000
  • Pediatrics/ Acute Care $ 8,150
  • Pediatrics $19,910
  • Pediatrics/ NICU $ 5,000
  • Pediatrics $ 3,000
  • Psychiatry/Ctr. for Human/Animal Interaction $ 3,600
  • Rainbow Society $ 2,500
  • Safe Kids of Virginia $ 4,155
  • Women's Health $ 2,155

Each year by the end of January, VCU Health System departments submit requests for funds to the Auxiliary. A committee of volunteers and hospital staff, including the hospital's chief executive officer and chief nursing officer, review the proposals and decide which programs will receive the grants.

The recipients of 14 departmental grants are all smiles after learning about their individual awards from the MCVH Auxiliary of the VCU Health System.
