With many of the class of 2022’s 4,600 students moving in Saturday, the Monroe Park Campus was a flurry of activity. VCU Police directed traffic, while Division of Student Affairs staffers directed lines of students and families — shoving boxes and lugging bags — toward their new homes in residence halls.

VCU News caught up with four new Rams as they moved into Brandt and Rhoads halls.

Why did you choose VCU?

My major is pretty good here: Engineering.

What do you find intriguing about that major?

Just knowing how things work. The underlying stuff, more than what’s on the outside.

What’s one thing you could not leave home without?

My PlayStation. I need that.

What are you looking forward to about being on campus?

Meeting new people.

Why did you choose VCU?

When I visited the campus, I just fell in love with it. A lot of my friends were coming here, and I heard great things. I fell in love with VCU. I love how the community is integrated with the city of Richmond, and how interconnected everything is. It’s just amazing.

What are you going to be studying?

I’m doing Art Foundation, and then major in Communication Arts with a minor in Kinetic Imaging.

Who is helping you move in today?

My mom and her boyfriend, Kevin.

Do you think you brought too much, too little, or just the right amount of stuff?

Judging from everyone else, I think I got right in the middle. Some people have two carts; some people have not a full cart. I think I got [it] just right.

What’s one thing you could not leave home without?

My phone charger — and my art supplies, really.

Who is this little guy?

That’s Chip. He wanted to come say goodbye.

Why did you choose VCU?

The diversity and the people here. I’m going into the art program, and it’s the best for that. That’s why. Right now I’m planning on Interior Design, but that might change.

I like that it’s in Richmond. There’s no other college like that.

Do you think you brought too much, too little, or just the right amount of stuff?

I think I brought the right amount. It kind of looks like a lot, because it’s bulky, but I think it will be OK.

Who’s helping you move in today?

My brother, mom and stepdad.
