Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center's Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation and Research Center will present "Meet the Titans," a fundraising meet-and-greet reception to benefit the Gerry Bertier #42 Foundation.

The event will take place Saturday, July 19, at 3:30 p.m., at the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building on the MCV Campus, 1217 E. Marshall St. Tickets are $20.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the coaches and players of the 1971 T.C. Williams championship team as portrayed in the 2000 film "Remember the Titans." Many players and coaches will be attending the reception, including coach Herman Boone, Big Julius Campbell, Blue Stanton, Rev Harris, Kerry Lundin as well as members of the late Gerry Bertier's family.

In addition, a complimentary showing of "Remember the Titans" will take place in the Kontos Medical Sciences Building auditorium at 1 p.m., immediately preceding the reception. The Titans also will be visiting patients on the pediatric and spinal cord injury rehabilitation units beginning at 10 a.m.

VCU's rehabilitation medicine program was recently ranked 25th best in the country in the 2008 "U.S. News and World Report."

The Gerry Bertier #42 Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation that supports spinal cord injury research at the VCU Medical Center. The foundation honors the memory of Gerry Bertier, the all-American athlete who experienced a spinal cord injury as depicted in the film. For more information, call 804-828-4100.
