Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Sculpture + Extended Media will open its biannual MFA exhibition Friday, June 5, at The Vazquez Building during Arts in Bushwick’s ninth annual Bushwick Open Studios.

“This exhibition is an opportunity for our students to present work that is richly varied in its materiality, form, scale and conceptual approach,” said Matt King, chair of the department, which is part of the VCU School of the Arts. “Reflecting the diverse nature of our program, this exhibition moves from sloppy American optimism to synthetic ontologies, from reconstituted banality to kitschy obsessive love and from the warping of space-time to the scratching of an itch.”

Artists featured in the exhibition are Jake Borndal, Adam Collignon, Andrew Francis, Sb Fuller, Tal Gafny & Perrin Turner, Noa Glazer, Morgan Pearse, Becky Star Sellinger, Shawn Taylor, Alina Tenser, Roxanne Yamins and Omri Zin.

The exhibition’s opening reception will take place June 5, 7 – 10 p.m., and the exhibition will run through June 27. The Vazquez Building is located at 93 Forrest St. at Central Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Regular gallery hours are Thursday – Sunday, 1 – 6 p.m.
