On behalf of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, former Virginia first lady Dorothy McAuliffe presented an award to Virginia Premier for “demonstrating its outstanding commitment to promoting the hiring of women veterans.” Of 301 large companies nominated for their participation in the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program, Virginia Premier was recognized for hiring the most female veterans.

This is the first year for the award, which was presented during the general session of the 2018 Virginia Women Veterans Summit today in Alexandria. The award recognizes the number of women military veterans hired by V3 partner companies and organizations since the inception of the program in 2012 through March 2018. There were four categories based on the number of employees: enterprise (1,000+), large (301-1,000), medium (51-300) and small (1-50).

“We are pleased to receive this award and to know that so many great companies share our commitment to hiring veterans,” said Virginia Premier CEO Linda Hines. “Hiring people who have served our country is not only the right thing to do, but a smart thing as well. They bring to the civilian workforce a host of sought-after skills, maturity and dedication.”

Virginia is home to more than 100,000 women veterans, making it the highest percentage of female veterans of any state in the country. Virginia Premier has employed 29 women veterans since 2012.
