Virginia Commonwealth University Health System announced today that Colonial Orthopaedics physicians will join MCV Physicians, the physician practice group affiliated with VCU Health. This expansion of services will provide patients greater access to the best network of primary and specialty-care providers in the Tri-Cities area.

Since 1981, Colonial Orthopaedics has provided community-based general orthopaedic services, including subspecialty services in total joints, foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, sports medicine, and spine surgery. By joining VCU Health, patients will have access to everything an academic center has to offer. The addition of 97 Colonial Orthopaedics team members will strengthen VCU Health’s capacity as a system for orthopaedic needs.

“We are thrilled to be part of the region’s premier health system,” said Manjit Dhillon, M.D., president of Colonial Orthopaedics. “We look forward to collaborating and contributing to VCU Health’s excellent and nationally ranked programs and providing patients with the best patient-centered community-based orthopaedic and subspecialty care now and in the years to come.”

The teams at Colonial Orthopaedics and VCU Health both share a commitment to improving the health of the communities they serve. Colonial Orthopaedics patients will be able to see their same physician teams but have access to the resources of VCU Health. MCV Physicians will officially open at several former Colonial Orthopaedics locations effective March 15.

“We are now better able to meet our patients’ needs and expectations by creating easier access to the right care, at the right time, in the right place,” said Tom Yackel, M.D., president of VCU Health MCV Physicians. “By expanding our geographic footprint, patients who Colonial Orthopaedics has served for more than 35 years now have the expertise of our 850 physician medical group providing integrated care to the community.”
