Research

Susan G. Kornstein, M.D., is a nationally recognized researcher and thought leader with expertise in women’s mental health and depression. Dr. Kornstein has been a principal investigator on over 40 research studies in the areas of depression, anxiety disorders, and premenstrual syndrome. She has authored or coauthored more than 100 articles, chapters, and abstracts, and has given many national and international presentations on topics related to depression and women’s health. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Women’s Health and editor of Women's Mental Health: A Comprehensive Textbook. She is President-Elect of the International Association for Women’s Mental Health and Scientific Program Chair for the 3rd World Congress on Women’s Mental Health, to be held in Australia in 2008. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Kornstein has been the recipient of several awards for her research, service, and leadership. Dr. Kornstein earned her undergraduate and medical degrees at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She completed her residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia. In addition to promoting an understanding of gender differences and addressing a broad spectrum of medical topics relevant to women’s health across the lifespan, Kornstein can also address broader issues such as the fragmentation of women's health care, under-funding of research and the politicization of women's health issues.
